Triangle or Square: What price do you pay for convenience? We will explore the pros and cons.
Recently Pay Pal threw its hat in the mobile payment solution arena with its newly launched “Triangle” to compete with the already launched “Square”. We decided to take a look at both products and see just how “convenient” they really are.

Triangle:
PRO: Backed by PayPal’s world-class risk management capabilities – secure, reliable, easy transaction processing and fraud protection for you and your customers.
CON: Yet when we phoned we were never given a clear answer as to who holds the liability if the customers information is compromised. We were only told it would be very difficult to accomplish that since the information is never stored and only the last 4 numbers are captured for the transaction.
Square:
PRO: Claims their card-processing systems adhere to PCI Data Security Standard Level1. They give many examples of the lengths they go to from regularly installed security update patches to monitoring their servers. They too prohibit the storage of card numbers, magnetic stripe data and security codes.
CON: But here too, no one will talk about who is liable in the case of a breech. Is this really safe enough for your customers, your credibility?

PRO: Offers more than just credit cards. You can also process checks and invoices right from your smart phone.
CON: Only works with Apple and Android products.
Square:
PRO: Accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express
CON: Only works with iPhone, iPad or Android products

PRO: PayPal offers phone and online support.
CON: With the many different services PayPal offers it takes awhile to finally connect with someone who deals directly with business accounts and more specifically the Triangle, and even then, we were put on hold several times for the person with whom we were speaking to obtain answers from someone else.
Square:
PRO: Claims customer support is very important to them and you can expect to hear back from them within a few hours, and always within 24 hours.
CON: The PRO is actually the con! You have to send a message to them and you can expect to hear back from them within a few hours, and always within 24 hours. There is no phone support to obtain an immediate answer when you need one.
